Director of Development
 
Job Overview:

The Director of Development  is a key leadership position responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the organization’s strategy for individual donor engagement and cultivation and corporate giving. This role involves managing major gifts, mid-level giving, and planned giving programs, building and maintaining relationships with individual donors, and
working closely with the Board of Directors, senior staff, and volunteers to maximize fundraising potential. The Director will also be responsible for the growth of the annual giving program and meeting specific revenue goals.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and Implement Giving Strategy: Create and execute a comprehensive individual giving program aimed at acquiring, retaining, and upgrading individual donors. Align individual giving efforts with the organization’s overall fundraising goals.

  • Major Gifts Program: Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift prospects and donors. Develop personalized engagement strategies for major donors to ensure long-term giving and relationships.

  • Annual Fund Program: Lead the development and implementation of the organization’s annual fund, managing direct mail, online campaigns, and giving societies.

  • Planned Giving: Develop and expand the planned giving program, encouraging legacy gifts from individuals who are committed to the long-term sustainability of the organization.

  • Donor Stewardship: Build and maintain strong relationships with individual donors. Ensure high-touch stewardship through regular communication, special recognition, and tailored updates on the impact of their gifts.

  • Corporate Giving: Create and execute a comprehensive corporate giving program aimed at acquiring, retaining and upgrading corporate donors.

  • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other members of the team, Executive Director and the Board of Directors to ensure alignment on fundraising goals and strategy.

  • Donor Data Management: Oversee donor data tracking, ensuring timely and accurate reporting on donor activity. Use data analytics to track donor giving patterns and trends, identifying opportunities for growth.

  • Budget Management: Create and manage budgets for individual giving programs, ensuring efficient use of resources and meeting fundraising targets.

  • Other Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned to support the organization’s overall development efforts.

Skills and Competencies
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in fundraising, nonprofit management, or related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising or development, with at least 3 years in a leadership role focused on individual giving and donor cultivation.

  • Demonstrated success in managing major gift programs and securing significant gifts.

  • Strong understanding of fundraising best practices, donor stewardship, and relationship-building strategies.

  • Excellent communication skills; ability to articulate the organization’s mission and vision to individual donors.

  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

  • Ability to work effectively with senior leadership, board members, volunteers, and other stakeholders.

  • Proficiency with fundraising databases and Google Suite

  • Experience with planned giving or corporate partnerships.

  • Proven track record of successfully meeting fundraising goals.

  • Strong network of individual donors, volunteers, and potential major gift prospects.

Benefits
Compensation Package

Base Annual Salary Range: $70,000-$82,000 w/ $3,600 benefits package

Time Off
  • Vacation: 15 days annually, with an accrual of 1 extra day per year up to 20 days.

  • Holidays: 10 holidays. 

  • Sick Leave: 5 days annually, resets at the start of each calendar year.

  • Maternity Leave: 12 weeks unpaid leave with healthcare coverage.

 
Professional Development

Annual Allowance of $250 for related workshops, networking events, and other relevant tools/resources.
